Decent size, not overly complicated, buckle is on one side

I like this as a medium-sized pack without too many frills. I have another one that is much larger and has like 4 pockets and I find that too much. The smaller outer pocket is big enough for a large phone (LG V20 fits, so should iphone max), and the large main pocket has another small zippered pocket inside. Enough for organizing without being too heavy or complicated.I got this for multipitch rock climbing when I want a few things with me without wearing a backpack and I think this is a good size for that. The shape of the buckle is such that I can tie some cord through it to make sure I don't detach it accidentally. I generally prefer a centered buckle, and the cinching / tightening is a little slow as there's a secondary buckle thing you have to feed the strap through but it's fine. If you're skinny (like 30" waist or smaller), then there will be a LOT of extra waist strap you'll have to manage. I might cut off some and resew the end.

Good fanny pack

I like this fanny pack and use it for travelling abroad. I did think it was bigger, but it will work. Zipper is a hermetic type that keeps water out. Not waterproof, but water resistant. Big enough for passports, phone and such.
